The Light Bee is where most people start, and for good reason. 8kW peak motor, 125 lbs, real off-road geometry — light enough for a beginner to learn on, capable enough that experienced riders still pick one up as a second bike. It's the bike that proved this category was worth taking seriously.
The Light Bee is Sur-Ron's original, and it's still the bike most people in this category get measured against. The 2025 model runs an 8kW peak motor against a 125 lb forged aluminum frame, with a 60V/40Ah battery good for about 47 miles of trail riding at moderate speeds. Top speed is 46.6 mph, charge time is roughly 2 hours from 20–80%, and the bike pulls hard from low-end through mid-range — exactly where you spend most of your time on real trails.
What makes the Light Bee work isn't any single spec. It's how the parts fit together. The geometry is closer to a real dirt bike than a mountain bike with a motor strapped to it. The 125-lb weight means you can pick lines confidently, throw it around in tight singletrack, and pick it up off a hillside without needing two friends. The battery pack is removable, so you can swap or charge it off the bike. The build is simple enough that most things on it are user-serviceable, which matters more than people realize when you're 15 miles from a trailhead.

8kW peak, where it matters
The motor is tuned for low and mid-range torque — exactly where trail riding lives. Pulls hard out of corners, climbs steep stuff without complaining, doesn't run out of breath halfway up a hill.
Removable battery pack
60V/40Ah lithium-ion, quick-release in about 10 seconds. Swap it on the trail, charge it indoors, or carry a spare. The cells are Panasonic — same quality as much more expensive bikes.
Real motorcycle geometry
Forged aluminum frame at 125 lbs. The seat height, wheelbase, and weight balance are dirt-bike-correct, not mountain-bike-with-a-motor. You can ride it like an actual motorcycle in the woods.
Brakes that actually work
4-piston hydraulic discs front and rear, 203mm rotors. One-finger braking with real modulation — important when you're learning, important when you're not. Tire setup is 19" front / 18" rear, off-road compound.
The Light Bee is the bike most people should start with if they're new to e-moto. The power is real but it's not going to launch you off the back of the seat the first time you twist the throttle. The weight is manageable enough that picking it up after a fall isn't a workout. And the parts are common enough that if something does go wrong, you can fix it without sending the bike back to the manufacturer.
